Human Resources Manager

Job Purpose

The Human Resources Manager position functions as a strategic partner responsible for identifying customer needs and driving appropriate HR solutions with assigned business units.

Essential Functions

• Serve as HR business partner with internal clients on (40%):

◦ Strategic planning/organizational design

◦ Employee and management development

◦ Rewards and recognition

◦ Business issues impacting employees

• Manage day-to-day employee/labor relations activities such as (40%):

◦ General HR-related inquiries from managers/employees

◦ HR policy/union contract interpretation/procedure/updates

◦ Performance management and improvement plans

◦ Ethics/labor relations complaint investigations

◦ Grievances

◦ Immigration

• Manage onboarding process for newly hired employees (10%)

• Create and deliver ad hoc training on HR/labor topics (5%)

• Maintain data/records in accordance with compliance regulations (5%)

Education

• Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

• HR related certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR) preferred

Experience/Background

• 6 to 7 years experience

• Previous experience as a HR Manager or Generalist

• Previous experience working in a union environment a plus

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Thorough understanding of HR processes and functions

• Thorough knowledge of and experience with regulatory requirements to employment, EEO, and affirmative action

• Strong computer literacy with HRIS experience preferred

• Demonstrated competency in strategic planning and organizational design

• Strong customer relationship orientation

• Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality

• Highly developed research and project management skills

• Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with and influence peers and management through consultation/coaching

• Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills

• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
